Deko-ze January Buzz Cutz!

(PPM Promotions, Hi-Bias Records, Balance Record Pool, Music2Mix Pool, ZipDJ Pool, Scenester Magazine, Guvernment, Comfort Zone, Footwork, Straight (Toronto), Parking (Montreal)

1. CHUS & CEBALLOS – Go On * Tek mix (Stereo)
I remember the first time I heard Danny Tenaglia’s “Dibiza” and I thoughts “WHOA!! This is going to be heee-yuge!!” Not only was it a great track but you could just visualise SO much as the track rampaged itself through your head! This is the sort of track that sounds like its going to jump out of the speakers!! Beware!!

2. DJ GROOVY – End Of The World * Tribalishious remix (Knob)
US label, Knob, has been bangin’ out SICK tribal for years! Whether it’s sexy Lexicon Avenue style progginess, or Tenaglia murkiness or Rooster & Peralta style bangers you’re after, search out Knob. The Tribalishious mix of the new DJ Groovy track is wicked!

3. MARCO G & DJ KAL – Apologise * Way Up High Mashup mix (white)
It has been a LONG time since I have had SO many people – clubbers and djs – asking about this remix! Montreal’s Marco G & DJ Kal do a mash-up of One Republic’s “Apologise” and their remix of Kevin Sunray’s “Way Up High”. MASSIVE!!!

4. DR. KUCHO – Macamba (Disc Doctor)
Timeless. This could have been made in 2004, 1997 or yesterday. The beats are rollin’, the Spanish guitar reminds of the summer time boat cruise crowd where everyone is cruising all the hot boys and girls and the break is a deep, soothing scene that is taken right from the ones of those “eyes closed / I’m immersed in the music – fuck time and space” moments!

5. DEKO-ZE VS DJS RULE – Feel Love * Deko-ze & Fierce remix (Hi-Bias)
Back in 1996, “Feel Love” was a huge underground hit for Canadian label Hi-Bias. So, as I dug through the Hi-Bias back catalogue and found this, I thought it would be suiting to bring this back for ‘08. This slow burner has been getting wicked reaction! Also, beware of a chunky and punky Deko-ze Mix and Dub, PLUS further remixes from Montreal’s Marco G and Toronto’s Cajjmere Wray!

6. STONEBRIDGE – You Don’t Know * Hott 22 mix (Egoiste)
This is not a ‘track’, it is a great, catchy, feel good song!!

7. MARIO PLAZA – Minimalitka (TUSOM)
Is “Minimal” the thing now, like “electro” was the big new thing yester-year(s)? Is certainly seems like it with so many producers stripping back their sound. Some of it, I think, is brilliant. Some of it, tries so hard to be cool, it disappears up its own ass. Mario Plaza’s “Minimalitika”, luckily, isn’t reaching ‘that’ far and rides the fine line of being stripped to the bone but still funky and sexy!

8. FUNKUZ & ROGER MARTINEZ – Instigate (In Charge)
This is what it sounds like a in black Southern US church – if the preacher was white, the attendees were partiers and the fierce old organ player was playing a Juno 106. Strong stuff that makes you go “Yih-eah!!”

9. RAWTHENTIC – Winter Sampler (Rawthentic)
Last month, I was praising this Toronto-based label for its excellent releases from Boza and The Junkies. Before some people have had time to change their underwear, they have already followed up with a “Winter Sampler” of fresh tracks. Seven quality floor fillers are here with my picks being DJ Simi & Masterkeys’ driving “Hear It Feel It”, Boza’s massive “My Big Thing” and The Roaches quirky “Burdz Eeet Bunneez”!!

10. ANDREA DORIA & LXR – The Beauty Of Silence * Inpetto mix (BluFin)
This reminds of the days where I had incorporated trance into my sets. “The Beauty Of Silence” is a wondrous slice, that combines tough beats, a surging bassline and an emotive riff that sweeps you off your feet. House, tech, prog and trance headz, UNITE!

* STATIC REVENGER – Ooh La La * BSOD remix (D-Dub)
Another one for those of you who like your shit DIRTY!!

11. DJ DAN – N20 / Chop Shop (In Stereo)
Dj Dan has been one of my favorite djs, ever since “Loose Caboose” he did with Jim Hopkins back in 1995. (Ssshhh!! I’m not one to gossip, but I ‘hear’ that a certain well known Toronto dj is stepping up to remix this legendary track!! Watch out!) Dan always brings the funk! Always!! Watch him spin and you’ll see what I mean. Grab these latest goodies from his InStereo label and you’ll HEAR what I mean!

12. M/A/R/R/S/ – Pump Up The Volume * Tuff House Dirty remix (white)
1997’s sampledelic “Pump...”, gets a new lease on life with this driving remix. This got great reaction from the first time I dropped it!

13. MYPD – You’re Not Alone * Micha Moor remix (KNM)
This isn’t as sublime as Olive’s 1996 Original but it sure is a strong ‘08, electro driven re-make!

14.
D-UNITY – Warning / Rhythm District 202 (Beat Syndicate)
Yet more Toronto djs / producers making their mark in the scene. These guys make big room, floor quaking tribal. Simple. No bells and whistles, no easy cliches, just good, headz-down, let’s-get-in-the-muck music!!!

15. R.I.O. - De Jeneiro * SH Project (Zooland)
This took a little while to grow on me. Nick Fiorucci played this for me a while back and I didn’t dig how they teased with the first three notes of “Belo Horizonte”, but once I listened to the rest of the track, I see that it really stands out on its own!!

16. JIM TONIQUE – Better World * Horny United remix (Attractive)
Good, uplifting disco house!

17. MATT THOMPSON – Bouncy Ride * St Curtiz remix (Release Records)
Great package! A proggy mix from Noel Sanger, a sexy groover from Kosmo & Kris B, a rotten as fuck mix from Damon G and, my fave, the tech interp from St. Curtiz!

* . OFFER NISSIM – On My Own (* 69)
New York label *69 comes correct comes correct with another solid package. If you want a happy, circuit-y mix, Offer Nissim provides to goods (once again). NYC’s Hector Fonseca brings a self-assured, chunky mix and Montreal’s Stephan Grondin brings a slower, sexy interp! Also grab the labels’ excellent “Dancefloor Weapons” cds!

18. JOSH GABRIEL – Summit (Organized Nature)
Geez!! Chuggin’ techno that grabs you by the nads and squeezes!

19. CHRIS FRESQUE – Priority Defect (Hoshi)
Yet another Toronto dude steppin’ it up! This reminds me a lot of the chuggin’ roll of Carlo Lio’s “Everybody” from last year! Good quality gear!!

20. KALIBER – Is This Love * Mark Knight / Nic Fancuilli mix (Toolroom)
Yet another reason why Toolroom is one of the world’s top labels. Their newie comes with several remixes but it is Fancuilli’s sexy groover and Knight’s twisted after hours mixes that do it for me!

BURIED TREASURE!

SHAKEDOWN – At Night * Mousse T Much Better remix (Defected) - 2001

Back in 2001, a record called “At Night” was quietly released. Dance powerhouse label, Defected, saw its major potential and released it with remixes by Kid Crème, Afterlife, Rulers of The Deep and Alan Braxe. But is was Mousse T’s forward thinking, but catchy-as–fuck remix that tore this track into just about every club the world over!! This was funky and used early 80s synthy, electro sounds WAYYY before “electro” got used, abused and watered down. Still sounds massive today!!
