DEKO-ZE’S NOVEMBER BUZZ CUTZ!
1. LAIDBACK LUKE – Rockin’ With The Best *
Rene Amesz mix (Mixmash)
Now this is some funky shit!
2. BORIQUA
TRIBEZ – Travolta * Cave remix (Adult)
When you see bouncing frantically
in the booth, working the EQs like my life depended on it and shaking my ass,
cuz its why my momma gave it to me, is because this techno stomper is raging
through the woofers!!
3. KLEERUP FT ROBYN – With Every Heartbeat *
Pete Tong & Dave Spoon remix (EMI)
WAIT!!!! Don’t run off! Yes,
that is the same Robyn who did that wretched euro-cheese pile of plop “Do You
Know What It Takes” from years back. “With Every Heartbeat” makes up for that
disaster and SOOO much more!! This has been a favorite track of mine for
months! And Yes, I do love the sound of her vocal (whereas Wade thinks it
sounds like Kate Bush on acid. You decide...)
4. DEKO-ZE VS DJS RULE
– Feel Love ‘ 07 (Hi-Bias)
Back in 1996, “Feel Love” was a huge
underground hit for Canadian label Hi-Bias. So, as I dug through the Hi-Bias
back catalogue and found this, I thought it would be suiting to bring this back
for ‘07. This slow burner has been getting wicked reaction! Also, beware of a
chunky and punky Deko-ze n’ Gavo mix, PLUS further remixes from
Montreal’s Marco G and Toronto’s Cajjmere Wray!
5.
SHAPESHIFTERS – A New Day * Nocturnel mix (Positiva)
One of the best
uplifting house tracks in a while! It’s not quite “Lola’s Theme” but is a VERY
close second!!
6. BJORK – Innocence * Simian Mobile Disco mix
(Atlantic)
MAJOR! This remix injects Bjork’s already caustic beauty with
some heavy punky and spiky drives. This is the sound of your computer beginning
to turn against you.
7. RHTYHM CODE – Sing * Rene Amesz remix
(Progresso)
“Tweedling Venutian Disco” from outer space! Now how’s that
for a new sub-genre?!
8. MARK RONSON FT. AMY WINEHOUSE – Valerie *
Count of Monte Cristal & Sinden / Andy Cato
The CMC &
Sinden remix sounds like Ernie and Bert bouncing along Sesame Street on pogo
sticks. Ernie is as happy as can be but Bert, because he didn’t get any the
night before, is pissed. The Andy Cato mix is dark and seductive. In
that case, “someone” obviously got some last night. Maybe it was Mr.
Snuffleupagus.
9. ? – Beautiful & Horny
Butt-munchers and
minge-eaters unite!! This is DIRTY!!!!!
10. KYLIE MINOGUE – 2 Hearts
* Mark Brown Pacha Ibiza Upper Terrace remix (EMI)
Like Madonna, Kylie
always gets hot producers and remixes to work on her goods. Scumfrog,
Morales, Sanchez, Nalin & Kane, Quivver, Brothers In Rhythm and Saeed
& Palash are just a few. The Original version of “2 Hearts” sounds
suspiciously like Goldfrapp but it is Mark Brown who gives this
track sass, mystery and after hours groove.
11. MURK – Reach For
Me * TV Rock & Dirty South mix (CR2)
This makes me want to tear off
my shirt, run to the dancefloor and wail along with the vocals like a large
black woman. (Well.....)
12. DEPECHE MODE – Personal Jesus * Dirty
South remixes (white)
In 1990, when Depeche Mode’s “Holier Than Thou”
extended mix of the Original came out, it was the pre-cursor to showing the
world how brilliant their soon to be released “Violater” album was going
to be. No remix could touch what this version did. However, this Dirty South
mix does a damn fine job!
13. LEFTFIELD – Song Of Life * Eric Estrada
remix (Reticent)
WOW! Another classic given the 2007 touch! This will
remind old schoolers why Leftfield were in the same running with Underworld,
The Prodigy and Orbital. For those of you new to Leftfield, Estrada’s
mix will give you a good taste!
14. PAGANO – My Religion
(Iberican)
The formula is quite simple: steal a well known Dead Can
Dance sample, put rumbling tribal beats behind it, have a hit and buy a
swimming pool, house and car. Oh yeah, all of the mixes of this are
stellar!
15. PIG & DAN – Sly Detector (Cocoon)
Brilliant
nu-prog / tech house!
16. HOXTON WHORES – Fat Moment / Fusion (Hoxton
Whores)
You know you have something special playing when the bass drops
and simultaneously, a big beefy dude shouts “Fuck Yeah!”, a sunglasses wearing
girl looks the crowd, points at her ‘No-no’ place and says gleefully “Oooh, I
had an accident” and the bouncer looks at me with disgust because he knows the
crowd isn’t leaving anytime soon!
17. GAT DÉCOR – Passion * Dave Spoon
Electro remix (Addictive)
“Passion” was one of the Songs of the summer
in 1997. Raves were huge, PLUR was the universal dance music lovers’ guideline
and glow sticks were actually not entirely offensive (yes, really!) “Passion”,
with its sexy summer vibe, united house, trance and prog heads worldwide.
Thankfully, Dave Spoon pumps up the track without straying too far from
the Original.
18. MOUSSA CLARKE – Regret * Daniel Lindberg remix
(Dumb)
A fantastic cross between pumpin’ tech house and slightly
melancholic progressive!
19. SLAM – Azure * Radioslave / Samuel L
Sessions remixes (Soma)
After 15 years, Scottish techno duo, Slam, are
still putting out quality choons. Their latest comes with a funky tech house
mix from Samuel L Sessions and a drawn out, mind numbing mix from
Radioslave.
20. DJ PLASMIC HONEY & DJ BORIS – Annihalating
(Iberican!)
Deep, dark and menacing Tribalism. This on one of Chus
& Ceballos’ labels, so you know this has the Seal of
Approval!
BURIED TREASURE
DEAD OR ALIVE – You Spin Me Round (Like A
Record) - 1984
Dead or Alive was the sound of sleazy hi-NRG disco. You
can hear the influential growl of legendary drag performer Divine through Pete
Burns vocals (and through his obscenely large lips!) They were loud, campy and
relentless (Right Said Fred, please take note!). It also took things
over the edge having the hit-production team Stock, Aitken and Waterman
(Sique Sique Sputnik, Bananarama, Mel & Kim, Rick Astley) behind them
and producing the second (and undoubtedly BEST album, “Youthquake”). This has
been ripped off countless times (most recently by Daniie Minogue) but the
Original is by far, still the best!
